What Puppy Mills Are And Where The Pups Go:

A puppy mill is a kennel in which the owner mass produce a large number of pups in unsanitary conditions. They usually have no regard for the dogs they breed, and the health and welfare of the dogs is not important to them. Bitchs (female dogs) are bred at their first heat and are bred every heat until they are not worth the little money they put into the dogs or they die. When the bitch is bred to a male no regard is given if the male is the bitch's father or brother or son they do not care, their only care is how much mony can be earned from the litter. When the pups are born their pen/area is not cleaned and they are usually left in thir own filth. The pups are left like this until they are 6-8 weeks old (some breeders take the pups when they are only 4 weeks old) and the pups that have survived are taken from their mothers and are sold to people that are called brokers.

These Brokers take the pups from the kennels and pack them in large numbers and ship them all over North America to companys and stores that have bought them. Some pups go to Pet stores others go to labs, and some go to who knows where. Not all the pups that are shipped survive the trip, that is why the broker packs large numbers. This allows them to have some losses and still make a profit. For the one who do survive they are immediatly put up for sale (if they went to a pet store). Again all the survivors that make it to the pet stores don't live, some are so sick and weak the pet stores lets them die because it is not profitable to cure them. By the time you see the pup in the store window eight pups have died on average for that one pup in the store window.

Pet stores try to sell you the lonely puppy in the window image. They expect people not to know or care where their 'lonely puppy' came from they only want you to buy the pup. However some stores sell dogs that are rescues from the humane society and rescue mission, they usually post this but some do not.

If they are lucky enough to survive all that and get a home, they sometimes have a normal life. However again not all pups that are bought survive. Remember some of these pups are from inbred litters and can have problems. Others have perminate illnesses due to the poor quality that they were kept in as a new born.

The Dogs at The Mill:

The dogs that stay at the mill, are kept in conditions that would make any peson throw up. They are left in pens that are never cleaned and the dogs are usually left in their own fecies. Some dogs are left in outdoor runs that again are never cleaned. The worst are the dogs that are left in cages that are to small for them or are big enough but they share it with another dog. The below pictures are examples of how the dogs are left.

The dogs are also given the food that is collected off the floor of dog food production plants. Vets have confirmed that that food has now nutritional value for the dogs. This is why the dogs that are saved from mills usually have no teeth left or few teeth left.
